Archaeology - The Second Viking Treasure of Westerklief

Fragments of an earthenware pot.

Unlike the first silver treasure, this time only a small portion of the pot in which the silver was placed was found. The recovered fragments were from a Badorf-type pot, the same type as the pot in which the first treasure was found. Because this treasure was found just a short distance away from where the first treasure had been found, it is possible that the remains are related to the first find. However, a few details rule this possibility out, as we shall see shortly.
The shards are from quite a small pot, which had a mouth about 8 cm. wide. The shards come from the the rim and from the bottom of the pot. This rules out the possibility that this find was part of the first treasure, since the pot from the first treasure has a complete bottom.
